Similar to hip pain and knee pain, the mechanics of the foot and ankle can also be affected by the imbalance of gravity and tension from a twisted or tilted pelvic bone. One of the common symptoms of ankle and/or foot pain is what we call “Plantar Fasciitis.” This symptom is also caused by misalignment of the ankle and foot joints, which is known as fallen arch or dropped arch (sometimes flatfoot).
Once the foot arches are dropped to some degree, the fascia at the bottom of the foot is overstretched, increasing tension. This is why those who have Plantar Fasciitis experience pain with numbness and a tingling sensation at the bottom of the foot. It is usually worse in the morning and becomes slightly better throughout the day.
Customized foot orthotics and/or insoles may help alleviate the symptoms. However, more importantly, the correction of mechanical changes in the foot and ankle joints is crucial in order to treat the cause of pain. This is because fallen arches can be a counter-effect of the above extremity joints as well as that of the overall spinal structure.
