In Dr. David's Words
The disc plays a crucial role in the body. It is a connector of the spinal segments that make up the spine, and provides mobility, flexibility, and functionality to the human body. It also absorbs shock or impact to protect the spine and even make it stronger. So, if the disc is thick and healthy, the spine, and body, is healthy and strong in return. The thickness of the disc varies depending on one’s age, gender, etc., but a certain degree of thickness is necessary for your body to function properly.
For all humans, the disc naturally degenerates with age, but there are factors that facilitate unnecessary degeneration of the disc and joints, called a degenerative disorder. The degeneration is accompanied by chronic inflammation. Repetitive movement (micro-trauma), an injury, an accident, a bad fall, poor posture, and/or poor diet can all cause and aggravate the inflammation, which then accelerates the degeneration. If the disc degenerates and decreases in thickness and function, the spine and, consequently, the body, lose their strength over time, regardless of one’s age.
Chiropractic treatment helps to prevent unnecessary degeneration by improving the spine’s mobility and recovering its function without side effects. Once the disc recovers, the inflammation naturally decreases.
