The Friday 5 – MORE Podcasts, Superfoods & an MCU Marathon
1. Welcome, Fall!
Yes, I am one of those Fall-lovers who geek out at the start of the season and don’t stop until the following February. I’ve been waiting for the holiday season to come and lift our spirits, and the time is finally here! I’m not a big Pumpkin Spice person, but I’m so looking forward to all the apple-flavored drinks and desserts as well as social-distanced farm activities and general sense of merriment. We have a fun little community event coming up in the next few weeks, so be sure to keep an eye out for our newsletter!
2. Podcast Recommendation
I recently listened to a super informative podcast episode on the Broken Brain podcast (recommended to me by one of you, thank you!), hosted by Dhru Purohit. The episode is called “#154: The Mind-Blowing Science of Fat-Burning and Insulin Resistance with Dr. Benjamin Bikman.” Dr. Bikman is a leading expert on metabolic research and he shares on this episode about insulin resistance and its significance in the human body.
His insight completely put the puzzle pieces together for me regarding my own (and my family’s) health and nutrition. It felt like I stumbled into an amazing epiphany and I immediately shared what I’d learned with Dr. David (who already knew and actually has been doing further personal study about the same topics) and I’m excited to share with you as well! I definitely recommend for you to take a listen, regardless of whether you have metabolic concerns or not! Listen here.
3. Did You Know?
Just a friendly reminder that our first CBD sale is still going on!
15% off of all CBD products from now until October 20th!
4. Marvel Marathon
We finally finished our first movie marathon! At the end of summer, we had set out to watch ALL of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies in chronological order re: story timeline. It was…a beautiful experience. I adore the MCU so I loved the new angle, and Dr. David hadn’t watched half of the movies so it was a fun project! Now, it’s over and we are at a loss for what to watch. I am up for suggestions if you know any other movie series we can take on next!
Are there any other movie series that are as good and extensive as the MCU? Let us know in the comments below!
5. MORE Superfoods
Last week, I’d mentioned the various anti-inflammatory foods that I try to incorporate into my daily diet. Well, since then I’ve added more to the list! This time, I want to share with you some Superfoods, foods that are incredibly high and concentrated in antioxidants, vitamins, and other nutrients! So far, I just throw them all in my Daily Smoothie, but I’m curious to see what kind of recipes I can make with these power players.
Superfoods:
-Maca powder: Crushed Maca root is a cruciferous vegetable (related to broccoli, cauliflower, etc.), which suggests that it can be good for hormonal health, and it’s high in Vitamin C, iron, and copper.
-Goji berries: These berries have an interesting taste and are packed with antioxidants, Vitamin A, and fiber. They are said to have great health benefits for the eyes, liver, and many others.
-Chia seeds: This fun seed becomes encased in natural jelly when soaked in liquid, making it a popular ingredient in healthy snack recipes. These tiny superfoods contain high amounts of calcium, fiber, omega-3’s, phosphorus, and manganese.
-Flax seeds: Another seed rich in fiber, protein, healthy fats (that our bodies cannot make on their own!), and vitamins and minerals.
-Raw cacao powder: Cocoa’s healthy, helpful cousin! Cacao is cold-pressed, retaining its nutrients such as antioxidants, sulfur, and tons more vital minerals.
-Hawaiian spirulina: This is a potent algae that boasts high levels of vitamins and minerals as well as complete protein and amino acids! It’s available in pill form or as a powder to add to smoothies and other recipes. Check out our EASY Daily Smoothie recipe here!
That’s all for now!
